SOLD: 34′ Ta Chiao CT

This is a very unusual and special sailboat. “Beowoulf” was completely restored from the keel up in 2000-’01 by a knowledgeable yachtsman and experienced offshore sailor. When completed, she was the featured yacht in California’s “Latitudes and Attitudes – Seafaring Special” publication of November 2001.

The natural elements and a subsequent owner with too little time means she is now in need of some topsides varnish to restore her former luster. We received the boat in March. We have done new bottom paint and zincs, a professional hull survey and a thorough cleaning inside and out. Lockers and storage areas have been repainted inside, all mechanical and electrical systems inspected and all of the berths and cushions were removed and professionally cleaned.

She has a rebuilt Westerbeke four cylinder diesel and she ran strong across San Francisco Bay on her way to being trucked to Seattle last March. The detailed ‘full specs’ will give you a good idea about the great care and the considerable expense that went into her restoration, and why it is that we say she’s a special boat!

Available for immediate inspection in the water in Seattle.

Remarks
“Beowoulf” restoration in 2000-01 began with a complete hull inspection. Small areas of existing soft wood in the deck were repaired and the engine stringers were rebuilt. The mast and standing rigging were replaced and the mast is 5′ taller than the original for enhanced light air performance. All of the Harken deck hardware, internal halyards and running rigging was replaced at this time as well. Her decks were refastened and sealed. She is Type A design plan, and is hull #2 of a limited run originally designed to promote Ta Chiao at boats shows worldwide.

We feel fortunate to have received this boat at this time. She has been used very little since her restoration, but as we said, she is now in need of attention to her brightwork as evident in the recent photos of the companionway entry.

Beowoulf is going to be a beautiful boat for the person who will appreciate her and bring her back to ‘showroom’ quality.

Please note that the ‘main’ and three other pictures posted here are dated 2001. ALL of the other photos were taken within the past six weeks. She is well and fairly represented here, and we’d love to see her go to someone who will enjoy many, many more years of great sailing with her!

By the way; “Beowoulf” is an epic Old English poem from the Middle Ages, depicting “…a Viking hero and warrior who is eventually killed by a dragon…”
