Imagine the looks you’ll get in this one! She’s a 1954 Swedish Storebro Solö Ruff, Express Cruiser. All mahogany hull and interior with seamed fir decks. There may not be more more than a dozen of these classic boats in the US.

She was imported and completely reconditioned in 2003 including a new Volvo diesel. This lovely boat is a true collector’s item.

All canvas and upholstery was new in 2003 and it is in excellent condition. The center panel of the windscreen swings open for access to the foredeck while mooring.  The cuddy cabin has a vee berth with new cushions and throw pillows, and a port-a-potty head with waste containment. Helm controls are to starboard and the engine compartment is integral to the helm seat.  A small storage cabinet with a stainless sink is built in to the rear of the helm seat. There is a folding cockpit table (not pictured) that hinges on the stbd. combing at the rear bench seat.

The boat has a dark green two-piece canvas cockpit cover; fore and aft with bows. The forward section attaches along the windscreen and can be raised in place while running during inclement weather. The aft section attaches to the combing on the aft deck and serves as a weather cover. There is also a beige fully lined canvas full boat cover for long term storage. Ship’s papers include copies of the manufacturer’s original brochures and advertisements, along with a few photos taken before the restoration process was begun.

Survevor’s comments (excerpts) from 12/4/10: “The original construction of the vessel was of uncommonly high quality. Hull, topsides, foredeck and interior were found in very good condition with no evidence of grounding, damage and/or structural failure. The overall condition of the hull planking and structural timbers was observed to be very good. The Volvo engine was found to be in like-new condition.”

The hull is constructed of steam bent oak frames with mahogany planking and the foredeck is seamed fir.  Multiple finish coats create a warm, rich, honey-colored lustre to both interior and exterior.  Nassimi ‘Symphony’ brand vinyl is used on both the helm and bench seats. The cuddy bunks and cushions are covered with Sunbrella fabric.

This is an exceptional boat; a true classic in design and heritage that has been beautifully restored. “Zizi” has been meticulously maintained, hauled and serviced annually and is in excellent condition.
