This Tournament 400 Luhrs convertible sportfisherman has aggressive lines and comfortable accommodations. With her rakish flybridge and black wraparound deckhouse mask, the Luhrs 400 has a very distinctive profile.
Her two stateroom interior is an ‘open arrangement’ with L-shaped dinette in the salon, and bright galley a few steps below. The forward stateroom has an offset double berth, and over/under bunks are fitted in the guest cabin.
Fishing accessories in the cockpit include fresh and saltwater washdowns, an in-deck fish box, built in bait well in transom, rocket launchers, and flush rod holders. The flybridge is notably large compared to other convertibles of her size. Twin 454 gas engines provide 350 hp with a cruising speed around 15 knots, and a top speed at 22 knots.

Clarke Ryder, renowned builder of classic sailing boats, wrote about this 39′ Southern Cross:
“In 1980, to confirm theories as to how ancient mariners managed long sea journeys before sophisticated instruments were developed, Explorer Marvin Creamer commissioned our Bristol shop to build “NavStar”, a special factory finished Southern Cross 39. The 39 was designed by US Naval Academy marine architect Thomas Gillmer. Tom had designed the Seawind Ketch, the first fiberglass sailboat to sail around the world. Marvin successfully completed his historic trans-Atlantic voyage with no navigational instruments, just a thumb and a forefinger. (One would think that if you headed east from Newport you would eventually bump into something, but maybe it’s more complicated than that.) Marvin bumped into West Africa, confirming his theory. After completing this voyage, Navstar was upgraded with modern navigation equipment and many other conveniences.
